Israeli soldiers were seen gleefully celebrating the shooting of Palestinian protesters on Friday, a reporter for Turkish state news agency Anadolu said.

The soldiers were filmed firing tear gas and both rubber and live ammunition at demonstrators in the West Bank town of Kafr Malik, where local Palestinians were protesting the construction of Israeli settlements considered illegal under international law.

Anadolu cameraman Hisham Abu Shaqrah said Israeli forces were engaging in "bloody entertainment" as they reportedly targeted demonstrators.

When one protester was hit in the leg at close-range, Abu Shaqrah filmed the soldiers "celebrating the injury to the demonstrator, laughing and hugging each other".

Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967.

Since then, the Israeli government has sanctioned the construction of hundreds of settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory.

The transfer of civilian populations to occupied territories is considered to be a war crime under international law, a fact Israel disputes.

Palestinians protesting against the Israeli occupation and settlement construction are regularly met with tear gas and bullets.
