Former Alaska governor and one time Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin endorsed controversial Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Tuesday.

Speaking at a Trump campaign rally in Iowa, John McCain's infamous running mate in the 2008 presidential elections said: "I'm here to support the next president of the United States - Donald Trump."

"Media heads are spinning," Palin said. "This is going to be so much fun."

She said that, with Trump as president, America would no longer apologise.

"No more pussy-footing around," Palin said, adding that Trump would allow the military do its job and destroy the Islamic State group. "He's going rogue left and right. That's why he's doing so well."

The endorsement of Palin, who has become an icon for America's religious right, could potentially be a boost for the billionaire candidate.

However, it seems that Twitter users still remember the wealth of outlandish statements made by Palin the last time Palin was on a presidential campaign trail in 2008 and they were not going to pass up the opportunity to poke fun at a Trump-Palin combo.

Here are some of their offerings.
