The reviled Republican nominee told voters at a rally in Florida on Wednesday that electing Hillary Clinton in November would lead Islamic State to “take over this country”.
“They’ll not only take over that part of the world,” Trump said, referring to the radical jihadist group, “they’ll take over this country, they’ll take over this part of the world.”
The claim by Trump, beleaguered by the lewd comments scandal that has seen his own party politicians disown him, is of course ludicrous. Not even a nuclear-armed superpower can take over the United States, let alone a cult of religious crazies fighting for their last breath in Iraq, Syria and Libya.

In truth, it is Trump himself who all but has the endorsement of IS. His Islamophobia fits perfectly into IS's narrative of victimisation and an eternal war between the West and Islam.

Trump's ridiculous claims are an insult to the intelligence of American voters, though in the case of his supporters intelligence may be in short supply. What is most likely is that if Trump loses, America will have been conquered...by common sense.
