Thousands of people from the Polish far-right gathered in downtown Warsaw on Saturday for a rally against Muslims and Jews.

Tens of thousands of Poles marched through the capital Warsaw on Saturday in an independence day event organised by a nationalist movement that calls for a "white Poland".

Nationalist protesters carried banners that read "White Europe", "Clean Blood" and "Pray for Islamic Holocaust" in a rally that outnumbered a government organised independence demonstration.

Police estimate that 60,000 people took part in the independence day event. While the majority were Poles, protesters came from across Europe waving flags and symbols associated with the far-right.

National Radical Camp, the main organisers of the event, takes its name from a 1930s fascist movement, which campaigned for the expulsion of Jews from Poland. Their co-organisers, All Polish Youth, are similarly named after an anti-Jewish inter-war movement.

Across Europe, far-right movements have been on the rise.

Reactions to the march varied, some were proud

But most were worried for the future of Europe.
