Two Palestinians were shot dead by Israeli forces after stabbing and wounding an Israeli soldier in the occupied West Bank on Sunday, the Israeli army has said.
Israeli forces fired at the two Palestinians, aged 17 and 23, for stabbing and wounding a solider in the village of Hewara, near Nablus in the West Bank.
The two Palestinians died at the scene and were identified by the Palestinian Ministry of Health as Mohammed Sabaaneh and Nureldein Sabaaneh from Qabatia near Jenin in the West bank.
"Forces on site responded to the imminent danger and fired toward the attackers, resulting in their death," the Israeli army said in a statement.
Earlier on Sunday, another Israeli soldier was stabbed at a bus station in Jerusalem by a Palestinian who was detained by the Israeli forces.
The attack comes following a series of daily stabbings and shootings, which have killed at least 130 Palestinians since October.
The recent surge in violence has been fuelled by anger over increased Israeli attacks in West Bank and al-Aqsa mosque complex in Jerusalem.
Palestinians remain frustrated over Israel's 48-year occupation and the continued expansion of Israeli settlements.
Meanwhile, the military wing of Hamas has announced in a statement the death Abdulrahman al-Mubashar, one of their Izz Addin al-Qassam Brigade leaders, on Monday.
Mubashar died while working in a tunnel that collapsed, the statement said.
