US senator wants terror designation for Muslim Brotherhood

US Republican Senator Ted Cruz and Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart have introduced a bill asking Secretary of State John Kerry to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as an international terrorist organisation.
The bill, dubbed the "Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act," was announced by Cruz on his Twitter page on Tuesday.
"It's time to call the enemy by its name," Cruz tweeted, referring to the movement which is also banned in several Middle Eastern nations, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Syria.

The bill states that the group has met the criteria of a terrorist group, and thus should be designated as such.
Across the Atlantic, the UK's home office released guidance last year on how Muslim Brotherhood members could seek asylum in the UK.
The move was slammed by Egyptian lawmakers, who said it underlined Britain's "long-standing tolerance of Islamic extremism".
