Israeli forces kill Palestinian student during raid

Israeli troops shot dead a 22-year-old Palestinian student and wounded three others as they raided a West Bank village, according to local media.

Troops fired live rounds and used "riot dispersal measures" after 50 unarmed Palestinians threw rocks at them during a raid in Taamun village.

Locals said Israeli forces stormed several houses looking for Palestinians deemed anti-Israel.

A Palestinian medical official said Mohammed Basharat, a university student, died from a gunshot wound to the chest. 

Israel regularly raids villages in the West Bank despite the area being under Palestinian control. 

Palestinians see the West Bank, seized by Israel in the 1967 war, to be part of a future state but Israel still maintains security control over the area.

In recent months, Palestinians in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip have staged regular protests along the separation fence, demanding the right to return to homes their families fled or were expelled from during the creation of Israel in 1948. 

They are also calling for an end to the decade-long Israel-Egypt blockade that the UN says will make Gaza "unlivable" by 2020. 

At least 205 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in Gaza since the 30 March protests began.

Over the same period, one Israeli soldier was shot dead by a Palestinian sniper.

Rights groups have strongly criticised Israel's use of deadly force against unarmed Palestinian protesters as well as tight security control over civilians.

More than 40 percent of the Palestinian male population have been detained at some point by Israeli military forces since the year 2000, rights groups say.
