Nancy Pelosi will head a delegation of US Democrats to Israel and Jordan, starting Saturday, to discuss 'security and cooperation issues' in the region, despite omitting the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
Leader of the US Democrats Nancy Pelosi has announced she will lead Congressional delegation visit to Israel and Jordan beginning Saturday of next week.

Her visit will focus on "global and regional security and cooperation issues", and mark the seventieth anniversary of the Jewish state, a statement from her office said.

"There is no greater political accomplishment in the 20th Century than the establishment of the State of Israel," said Pelosi in the statement.

"Our delegation is pleased to be able to extend the congratulations of the American people to the people of Israel as we celebrate the 70th anniversary of Jewish state this spring."

She added that the delegation will also meet with "key ally" Jordan, to discuss strengthening economic and security ties, in particular, the Syrian refugee crisis.

She did not, however, mention any intention to visit the West Bank or Gaza, despite having voiced support for a two-state solution.

Pelosi has also condemned US President Donald Trump's official recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

This spring will also mark the 70th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba, where villages were razed and hundreds of thousands were forced from their homes.
