Hamas chief calls for more Israel border protests
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh has called for more protests on Gaza's border, amid outside efforts to stop Palestinians from marching.

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh called Monday on Gazans to keep up their protests on the Israeli border that have resulted in deadly clashes.
"Gaza enters a new stage of peaceful and popular resistance," Haniya said during a visit to a tent camp for protesters.
While Haniyeh and Hamas have urged Palestinians to continue the protests, efforts have reportedly been made by Riyadh and Cairo to stop the marches.
According to Israeli intelligence commentator Yussi Melman, who quoted an anonymous source in Israeli newspaper Maariv, Egypt has promised to temporarily open the Rafah crossing and ease Gaza's siege if the protests stop.
The Gaza-Israel border has since March 30 been the scene of major protests, with tens of thousands of people demonstrating against the Jewish state.
Israeli troops have responded with force, killing 31 Palestinians.
The Great Return March remains specifically important to the 1.3 million refugees of the besieged enclave's 1.9 million population, whose families fled to Gaza during the mass expulsion of Palestinians during Israel's establishment in 1948.
