Wissam Yousef Hijazi passed away on Monday after battling his wounds which he sustained as a result of brutal Israeli tactics on the besieged Gaza Strip for months.

A Palestinian man who was shot by Israeli forces during the Great Return March protest in May - on the besieged Gaza Strip's border with Gaza - finally succumb to his wounds on Monday, medical sources have said.

Wissam Yousef Hijazi, 30, was critically injured by Israeli forces on 14 May, during the border crossing protests east of Khan Younis.

He continued receiving treatment at hospital up until the gunshot wounds finally resulted in his death.

Wissam is the latest Palestinian to be killed as a result of Israel's brutal assault on the besieged enclave.

At least 160 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since the protests began.

Last week, Ahmed al-Ayeda, 17, died after he was shot on 30 March - the first day of the Great Return March protests

- and had been in hospital since being struck east of Bureij in the central Gaza Strip.

Ayeda was transferred to a Palestinian hospital in Ramallah on 24 April, but remained in critical condition since.

Israel scaled up its brutal violence against Palestinians in Gaza when protester held peaceful marches on the border with Israel, calling for their right to return to homes lost since the establishment of the Jewish state.

Out of Gaza's nearly 2 million inhabitants, 1.3 million of them are refugees whose families were forcibly during the exodus referred to the Nakba or catastrophe in 1948, during the creation of Israel.
