Founder and former leader of the English Defence League, Tommy Robinson, had a milkshake thrown over him while campaigning to be elected an MEP.

British far-right activist Tommy Robinson had a milkshake thrown over him for the second time in two days on Thursday, while campaigning to be elected as Member of European Parliament (MEP) for north-west England.

The English Defence League (EDL) founder and former leader was speaking to a man in front of a MacDonald's outlet in Warrington, Cheshire, who then proceeded to throw his MacDonald’s milkshake onto Robinson.

Robinson then appears to physically attack the man. In the widely shared video, the person filming can be heard saying: "That's what you get for being a fascist, you massive pr*ck".

A crowd of people who had gathered to protest against Robinson's campaign can be heard cheering after the incident.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "We are aware of an allegation of assault made following an incident in Bridge Street in Warrington this afternoon. We are looking into the circumstances."

Robinson, known for his highly inflammatory anti-Islam views, also had a milkshake thrown at him while campaigning previous day in Warrington, according to The Independent.

"Had a strawberry milkshake thrown over me by some I dunno, I'd say some Muslim supporter of course," he said in a video posted on his Telegram channel.

Robinson is standing in the upcoming European Parliament elections as an independent.

He has served as a political advisor to the Eurosceptic, right-wing UK Independence Party (UKIP).

His appointment as advisor led to a number of MEP's leaving UKIP including including Farage who said the party was becoming "obsessed with Islam".

Robinswas sentenced to 13 months' imprisonment in May 2018 for livestreaming outside a child sexual exploitation trial, despite repeated warnings by judges.

Following the Christchurch mosque shootings in March, a 17-year-old boy threw an egg at Australian Senator Fraser Anning during a press conference, protesting his Islamophobic comments about the attacks.
