Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met with the deputy chief of Sudan's military council Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, the official Saudi Press Agency reported on Friday.

MbS and Dagalo, who goes by the nickname Hemedti, discussed regional developments, SPA reported. The meeting was held on Thursday in the city of Jeddah.

The Sudanese general vowed to back regional ally Saudi Arabia against "all threats and attacks" from its rival Iran.

"Sudan is standing with the kingdom against all threats and attacks from Iran and Huthi militias," Dagalo told MbS during their meeting, Sudan's new Transitional Military Council said in a statement.

Talks between Sudan's military rulers and protesters on a transition to civilian rule remain deadlocked.

Last week, Riyadh deposited $250 million in Sudan's central bank as part of a support package for the country following the overthrow of long-time leader Omar al-Bashir.

The oil-rich Gulf state pledged to inject $500 million into Sudan's central bank and $2.5 billion to help provide food, medicine and petroleum products, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said last month.

It said the move was aimed at shoring up the Sudanese pound.

Sudan plays a key role in the regional interests of Saudi Arabia and its allies, siding with Riyadh against Iran and providing troops in the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen's war.
