Samir Arbid was hospitalised as a result of being tortured by Israeli security services.
A Palestinian detainee was recently moved to hospital after facing torture during interrogation by Israeli authorities, Palestinian prisoner rights group Addameer reported on Saturday.

Samir Arbid, whom Israel accuses of organising an attack which killed an Israeli settler near Ramallah in August, has been hospitalised in critical condition after being violently interrogated by Israel's Shin Bet security service.

His attorneys said Arbid was healthy when he was arrested, but authorities notified them he had been transferred to the hospital without specifying the reasons.

Arbid was arrested by the Israeli army during a raid in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah last week.

Israel’s treatment of Palestinian prisoners has for long been criticised by human rights organisations.

“Israel’s ruthless policy of holding Palestinian prisoners arrested in the Occupied Palestinian Territories in prisons inside Israel is a flagrant violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention” said Magdalena Mughrabi, Amnesty International’s Deputy Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa.

"It is unlawful and cruel and the consequences for the imprisoned person and their loved ones, who are often deprived from seeing them for months, and at times for years on end, can be devastating,” she added.

At least 700 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails suffer from serious health conditions, 160 of which are in need of urgent medical care.
