A civilian and at least three members of Iraq’s security forces were killed in three separate attacks by militants, security sources said on Saturday.

An army officer and soldier were killed in an explosion during a de-mining operation inside a house in the Sinjar district west of Mosul, Reuters reported.

Meanwhile intelligence official was shot dead in the Diyala province by sniper in an area northeast of provincial capital Baquba. A civilian was also killed when a bomb went off inside his car in an area west of the city of Samara in Salahuddin province.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks, although the Islamic State militant group is active in all three areas.

Victory was declared over the jihadists in Iraq at the end of 2017, after a three-year bloody and destructive battle.

However, sleeper cells of the extremist group have kept up hit-and-run attacks in isolated parts of Iraq, targeting government checkpoints, public infrastructure and local officials.
