Nearly three years after his acquittal over the killings of Arab Spring protesters, former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak has died at a Cairo hospital.

Former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak who was ousted in the 2011 Arab Spring has died at a Cairo hospital aged 91 on Tuesday, according to media reports.
Having been admitted to an intensive care unit due to severe health issues, the deposed leader remained there over the weekend, according to a tweet by his son Alaa.
Mubarak ruled Egypt for 30 years until he was ousted during the mass protests in 2011. He was one of the first leaders toppled during the Arab Spring uprising.
There was uproar in Egypt in 2017 when he was acquitted of involvement in the killing of protesters during the revolt that ended his reign.
As many as 848 people were killed during the revolution, as security forces attempted to crush the uprising.
Mubarak, whose health had been declining, attended court hearings caged and in a hospital bed.
Last year, ex-president and Muslim Brotherhood member Mohamed Morsi, who was democratically elected in 2012, died in a courtroom where he was being tried for a variety of charges, including collaboration with militant groups Hamas and Hezbollah.
