A 13 year-old British Muslim boy has become the youngest victim of coronavirus in the UK.

Ismail Abdulwahab, a schoolboy from Brixton, was rushed to hospital on Thursday after showing symptoms and experiencing trouble breathing, according to his relatives.

Ismail, who had no underlying health conditions, tested positive for the disease the next day and was put on a ventilator.

As his condition worsened, he was placed into a medically induced coma before tragically passing away in the early hours on Monday at King's College Hospital.

Due to the highly infectious nature of Covid-19, his family, who said they were ''beyond devastated'' in a statement, could not be with him when he died.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Madinah College in London, where Ismail's sister works as a teacher, to cover his funeral expenses.

''It is with great sadness to announce that the younger brother of one of our teachers at Madinah College has sadly passed away this morning [March 30] due to being infected with Covid 19,'' the page read.

'''Ismael was only 13 years old, without any pre-existing health conditions, and sadly he died without any family members close by due to the highly infectious nature of Covid-19.''

''We at Madinah College would like to appeal to our brothers and sisters to donate generously to help raise £4,000 for the funeral costs and to support the family, who sadly also lost their father to cancer.''

''May Allah grant the family patience through this difficult time and make it a means of drawing closer to Him.''

Over 1,800 people have died in the UK from the coronavirus, 393 of them within the past 24 hours, according to figures from health officials.

One third of all fatalities are though to be from the capital, London.

That figure also includes a 19-year-old man with no underlying health issues.
