Authorities in Jordan announced on Wednesday the easing of coronavirus curfews in some governorates.

Amjad Adaileh, a spokesman for the Jordanian government, said curfews would be amended in areas where no virus cases had been recorded.

Aqaba city, 340km south of the capital Amman, will be the first to see the easing of curfew restrictions as of Sunday morning, Adaileh said.

However Omar Razzaz, Jordan's Prime Minister, warned the virus epidemic will not end in any time soon.

"All indications say that coronavirus epidemic will not end in days or weeks and may take months or more. We have to cope with that," he said.

Jordan has recorded 402 positive cases of the virus and seven deaths, according to a tally kept by John Hopkins University.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.
