Israeli authorities did not name the Palestinian man who was shot dead in the alleged tab attack.
A Palestinian man was shot dead by Israeli border police near Jerusalem after attacking officers at a checkpoint, an Israeli police report said on Wednesday.

CCTV footage from the Abu Dis checkpoint, released by Israeli media outlet Haaretz, showed a vehicle ramming into the checkpoint and hitting one of the officers.

The attacker then got out of the white van and chased the officer before he was shot multiple times by two other border security personnel.

According to Haaretz, the Palestinian – who was not named – was armed with scissors and had stabbed the officer in his upper body before being shot.

The Israeli policeman was reportedly 'moderately' injured in the suspected 'terror attack'.

The Israeli checkpoint of Abu Dis is part of an illegal separation barrier that divides the Palestinian village from the rest of Jerusalem.

Over 600,000 Israeli Jews live in settlements considered illegal under international law in East Jerusalem and the West Bank.

Earlier in April, Palestinians in Israeli-annexed territories protested a violent police crackdown, carried out under the guise of implementing a coronavirus lockdown.

A Jerusalem car-ramming in February initiated clashes in the West Bank that killed five Palestinians, after 14 people - mostly Israeli soldiers - were injured in the ramming attack.
