A Turkish man on Wednesday jumped into the Aegean sea after refusing to pay a restaurant bill in Kuşadası, a resort town in the western province of Aydın, swimming towards a nearby Greek Island, Hurriyet Daily News report.

Coast guard officers apprehended the man three kilometres into his 27 kilometre feat, ending his attempt to seek refuge in the small Greek Island of Samos.

According to Hurriyet Daily, the man was shocked to receive a 'hefty' bill of 330 Turkish Lira ($48) after dining solo at an upscale local restaurant.

Following an argument with waiters, the man exited the restaurant.

He then jumped into the sea, prompting restaurant workers to contact emergency services.

A video shared to Hurriyet Daily’s news site appear to show coast guardsmen in a rubber boat pulling a large man out of the sea.

The man was reportedly questioned by police and later released.
