Turkish police are investigating the fatal fall of a British tourist who was captured on video attempting to swing between windows on the seventh floor of an Istanbul hotel
Turkish police have released details on the death of a British tourist in Istanbul, who suffered a fatal fall after being seen hanging by his hand from a seventh floor window ledge.
Police officials identified the deceased as 35-year-old Anthony McDowell, who had arrived in Istanbul with his ex-girlfriend on 15 September.

Police said they believed he had been alone in his hotel room in Istanbul's Karakoy neighbourhood in the minutes leading up to the fall, which occurred on 16 September.

McDowell's final moments were captured on video by a local, in which he can be seen in his underwear swinging outside his hotel room window in an attempt to reach the window ledge. However he loses balance and falls.

“McDowell came from Britain on 15 September. His ex-girlfriend Estee Mun B. also landed in Istanbul on the same day,” a police source told Turkey's Hurriyet Daily News.

The couple then met an American citizen named as Raul M., who spent the previous month in Istanbul. Police said all three spent the night in the same room at the unlicensed hotel.

The following morning, the couple argued with Raul in the hotel lobby, after which McDowell went to his room.

Police have verified a testimony given by Estee and Raul alongside CCTV footage showing McDowell going to his room alone.

They added that opiate drugs were found in the hotel room.

However they said the reason McDowell went out of the hotel window is still unclear.
