Four people died in an explosion in Lebanon's Nabatieh district, reported to have occurred at a Hezbollah arms depot.
An explosion caused by a technical error inside an alleged Hezbollah arms depot in southern Lebanon killed four people, reports said on Tuesday.

Citing a security source, Reuters reported that the Ain Qana explosion in the southern Nabatieh district hit a "house belonging to the Iran-backed Hezbollah group".

According to local English-language outlet The Daily Star, eyewitnesses said there were four casualties. Other news stations reported "several" injuries resulting from the blast.

Footage shared on social media showed large plumes of thick grey smoke ascending from what appears to be a residential area.

Hezbollah denied reports of causalities, saying the explosion happened as a result of a "technical error".

The Iran-backed group added that the building belonged to a "Hezbollah-affiliated de-mining association" and that the weapons stored there were "left behind from wars".

Witnesses told The Daily Star residents evacuated the area, running away from the smoke.

Last month, twin explosions at the Beirut port destroyed a large part of the capital and killed nearly 200 people. Since then several mysterious fires have broken out, mainly in Beirut, causing widescale panic.
