Egyptian actress Karima Mokhtar has died aged 82 following a long battle with disease.
The renowned actress starred in dozens of films, TV dramas and stage plays in a career spanning more than 50 years.
Her funeral was held on Friday at the mosque of Amr Iban al-As in Cairo, according to Sameh al-Sariti, the president of Egyptian Actors' Syndicate.
Mokhtar was born in Cairo in 1934 under her real name Attyat Mohamed al-Badry.
She earned her bachelor's degree in theatre in 1963 and was active in the Egyptian TV entertainment industry since its outset.
Her first role on the big screen soon followed in the film Thaman Al-Horeya (The Price of Freedom).
She starred in a string of successful films, including Zeinab, al-Hafeed (The Grandson), Amira Hobi Ana (Amira My Love), al-Shaytan Ya'ez (The Devil Preaches) and al-Farah (The Wedding).
Her roles on television included classic soap operas such as Yetraba Fi Ezo (May He Grow Up Prosperous) and Bardis.
Towards her later years, Mokhtar stood out in her portrayal of motherly characters.
She was married to late film director and actor Nour al-Demerdash. Her only son, Moataz al-Demerdash, is the host of Misr al-Gidida (New Egypt) on al-Hayat TV channel.
