The son of slain al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has threatened revenge against the United States for killing his father in an audio message posted online.

Hamza bin Laden promised to continue al-Qaeda's fight against the US and its allies in a 21-minute speech entitled "We Are All Osama".

"We will continue striking you and targeting you in your country and abroad in response to your oppression of the people of Palestine, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Somalia and the rest of the Muslim lands that have not survived your oppression," Hamza said.

"Your President has fooled and deluded you all into thinking he has defeated the mujahideen after God has allowed him to kill some of their leaders."

"As for the revenge by the Islamic nation for Sheikh Osama, may Allah have mercy on him, it is not revenge for Osama the person but it is revenge for those who defended Islam."

He also praised "the 19 heroes who achieved a great victory", referring to the al-Qaeda hijackers who carried out the 9/11 attacks.

Osama bin Laden was killed at his Pakistani hideout by US commandos in 2011 in a major blow to the militant group which carried out the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Hamza, now in his mid-twenties, provides a young voice for the global militant group, which has recently lost many militant recruits to the Islamic State group [IS].
