Calls for Saudi teenager's arrest over Prophet Muhammad insults

Amal al-Asmari went viral after she entered a debate online, where she criticised the closure of shops during prayer times, before proceeding to make blasphemous comments. 

Her initial comments received a wave of backlash, with many informing her about the importance of prayers in Islam.

A particular comment that grabbed Amal's attention was: "The Qur’an and Sunnah (prophetic guidance) has prevented people from making sales at the time of prayer, [how can you] object this?"

The teenager responded to the tweet saying: "Who told you that I believe in your Quran, which incites murder and polygamy and the beating of women. What kind of a messenger of God would rape Safiyah bint Huyayy and kill her father, brother and husband in one day."

The tweet sparked outrage, with many calling for her arrest over the remarks. 

Blasphemy in Saudi Arabia is punishable by death, but the more common penalty is a long prison sentence.
