Daughter of jailed Palestinian lawmaker Khalida Jarrar found dead in Ramallah home

The daughter of a jailed Palestinian lawmaker was found dead at her home in the occupied West Bank on Sunday.

Suha Jarrar, the daughter of Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) member Khalida Jarrar, was found in her Ramallah home, according to a family statement carried by Palestinian news outlet Maan News Agency.

Suha suffered from ill health, the statement said.

The PFLP, a Marxist-Leninist group, said in a condolatory statement released Monday that Suha died of a "severe heart attack".

Khalida, an elected member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, has been arrested and detained by the Israeli forces multiple times.

Suha, a researcher and social justice activist, had written for The New Arab on her mother’s detention back in 2015.

Khalida Jarrar was most recently detained in October 2019. She was sentenced by an Israeli military court to two years in prison in March 2021, for "inciting violence" and belonging to a "banned organisation".

A petition calling for Khalida to be released from Israeli detention so that she can mourn and attend Suha's burial was shared by Canadian-Palestinian lawyer Yafa Jarrar, Khalida's daughter.

Jarrar was elected in 2006 to the Palestinian legislature as a PFLP representative. She has long been a well-known PFLP politician, focusing on women’s rights and the affairs of prisoners in Israeli jails.
