One person was killed and at least 20 people injured on Tuesday when two booby-trapped motorcycles exploded in the northern Syrian city of Azaz near the Turkish border, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said.

The first motorcycle bomb hit a market in the centre of Azaz, killing one person and injuring at least 14, while the second exploded outside an orphanage in the city, injuring six people.

Local security forces also found another motorcycle bomb outside a school in the nearby town of Al-Raie.

Azaz is in the "Euphrates Shield" area of northern Syria, which was captured by Turkey and Syrian rebel groups allied to it from IS in 2016.

The Turkish forces and Syrian groups which control it are also in conflict with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) which control nearby areas of northern Syria.

Syrian opposition websites blamed the SDF for the bomb attacks.

A member of the Free Syrian Army was killed and other wounded in clashes with Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) forces near Azaz after Kurdish fighters tried to infiltrate the village of Marenaz near Azaz, Anadolu reported.

In June a car bomb in Azaz killed at least 14 people.
