Egypt to ban unvaccinated students from entering universities from mid-November

Students in Egypt will not be allowed to enter university campuses from 15 November unless they can show proof they do not have coronavirus or have been vaccinated, the supreme council of universities announced on Sunday.

Unvaccinated students will be required to submit PCR tests on a weekly basis, local media reports said.

Last month, Minister of Higher Education Khalid Abdel-Ghaffar announced that only vaccinated students would be allowed to live in university dorms.

Egypt had earlier requested that civil servants get vaccinated in order to enter public institutions or else provide negative PCR tests on a weekly basis.

Egyptians are also required to offer proof of vaccinations in order to receive services at these facilities.   

Only about 23 million Egyptians have been vaccinated so far and just 7.68 million have received the full doses, out of a population of 100 million.

On Sunday, the Egyptian health ministry reported a total of 881 cases of Coronavirus and 47 deaths in a population of about 101,000,000. Yet it is believed these numbers are inaccurate as infected cases are not usually reported to the ministry and patients often self-isolate.
