The Egyptian Ministry of Awqaf (Religious Endowments) explained that the video was shot during the restoration of the mosque, and the man seen in the video was part of the team responsible for its maintenance, according to Gulf Today.
Local media reported that the man seen in the video lives in the city of Qalyub, north of Cairo.
He, along with several others, will be investigated by authorities for their actions.
There have been several other instances across the Arab world of authorities clamping down hard on those who were perceived to have disrespected Islam or places of worship.
In 2017, Tunisian authorities shut down a nightclub where a DJ played a track that included the Adhaan, the Islamic call to prayer.
