An explosion in the Cairo suburb of Maadi killed one person, and left at least two others injured on Friday.

The state-affiliated Al-Ahram newspaper reported that the victim of the blast was one Hamada Abdel Aty, a 35-year-old property guard.

Aty is said to have discovered the bomb on the street while cleaning the area surrounding the property he works at on Algeria street, in the up-market district.

Abdel Aty's wife and son were injured in the blast, and have been transported to hospital for treatment, said al-Ahram.

A security cordon has been established around the blast scene, with investigators combing the area for evidence.

Reports of the explosion followed shortly after news that former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, ousted from power in 2011, had been released from detention.

Mubarak spent much of his six year detention in a military hospital in Maadi, an upscale district that also houses a number of other military facilities.

A spokesman from the Interior Ministry said that the incident was not being treated as an act of terrorism, according to el-Watan.
