Explosion targets Afghan MP in packed Kabul street
Afghan police say a bomb has exploded in Kabul and 'caused casualties' in an attack that appears aimed at an MP.

A bomb has exploded in a packed street in Kabul causing casualties, which police say appears to have targeted an Afghan MP.

The explosion is said to have injured MP Fakuri Behishti and killed his bodyguard, when magnetic bomb attached to his vehicled was detonated, according to TOLO news.

The MP was passing through Dasht-e-Barchi neighbourhood in Kabul on his way to parliament when the attack took place on Wednesday morning.

Police told Reuters that the bombing was in a crowded area of Kabul resulting in casualties.

No group has claimed responsibility but both the Taliban and Islamic State group have launched attacks in the Afghan capital.

Last week, another MP was killed by a suicide bomber who blew himself up in Kabul.
