Four children killed in refugee camp fire in northeastern Syria
Four children have been killed and six adults injured after a fire broke out at a camp for displaced people near the town of Malikiyeh.

Four children have been killed and six other people injured in a fire at a camp for internally displaced people in Hasakeh province in northeastern Syria.
A source from the Nawrouz IDP camp, which is near the town of Malikiyeh, told The New Arab’s Arabic-language service that a gas heater had exploded in the camp, burning down a tent and killing the four children.
The Kurdish Red Crescent said that the four children were all from the Sacir family and identified them as Teysir, Diyana, Beraa, and Esad.

Six people who sustained burn injuries in the fire were transported to the hospital in Malikiyeh, the source said. Three of these were later taken to Erbil in northern Iraq for further treatment, because their situation was critical.
The Nawrouz camp lies in an area controlled by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). It is inhabited by 50 families comprising 210 people and includes people displaced from Ras al-Ayn and Tal Abyad, which were captured by Turkish-allied Syrian fighters in October last year, as well as people from Afrin and Kobane.
Many fires have broken out in Syrian refugee camps recently, as people have been forced to resort to unsafe devices for heating and cooking.
