A Hamas delegation arrived in Egypt’s capital Cairo on Tuesday to negotiate a ceasefire in Israel as tensions flamed on Monday.
According to pro-Hamas outlet Al-Quds, the delegation of three Hamas officials arrived in Egypt to restore relative calm after an exchange of fire over the last few days.
Local sources have said the delegation included member of Hamas' politburo Rawhi Mushtaha and the group's security chief in Gaza, Tawfiq Abu Naim.
The delegation arrived in Cairo to discuss Israel slashing fuel imports to the besieged enclave.
Israeli authorities announced on Monday a punitive reduction in the flow of fuel to the besieged strip's main power station, meaning a deep cut in the already rationed electricity supply.
A statement by Major General Kamil Abu Rokon, the Coordinator of Government Activity in the Territories, said the reduced imports to Gaza's power station will continue until further notice.
Israel has besieged Palestinian enclave since 2007, fighting three wars with Hamas since 2008.
Israel insists its blockade is necessary to isolate Hamas.
Critics say it amounts to collective punishment of the coastal enclave's 2 million residents.
The UN says Gaza will be uninhabitable by 2020, but human rights organisations say Gaza has reached inhabitability now.
