Instagram 'censors' Iranian support for assassinated nuclear scientist

Iranian social media users voiced anger over the removal of posts condemning the killing of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, Fars reported.

Fakhrizadeh headed Tehran's since-disbanded nuclear weapons programme. 

The Facebook-owned company has previously removed posts celebrating controversial Iranian officals.

Earlier this year, Instagram said it would reove posts voicing support for Qasem Soleimani, the Iranian Republican Guards Corps commander who was killed in a US drone strike in January.

Soleimani headed the Guards' foreign operations, including Iran's bloody involvement in Syria and Iraq.

Tehran called for legal action against the social media giant in response.

Iran has accused Israel of responsibility for the killing of Fakhrizadeh, 59.

President Hassan Rouhani vowed on Saturday to take revenge for the assassination in "due time".

"They are thinking of creating chaos, but they should know that we have read their hands and they will not succeed," Rouhani said.

Israel is widely thought to be the culprit behind a string of targeted killings of Iranian nuclear officials around a decade ago. 

Tehran's arch enemy fiercely opposes any nuclear capabilities for Iran and has also been accused of carrying out cyber sabotage attacks on the Islamic republic's nuclear infrastructure.
