An Iranian military adviser was among those killed in an Israeli attack on Hizballah in Quneitra, southwest Syria, the Iranian Fars news agency has reported.

Mohammad Ali Allah Dadi died on Sunday along with several Hizballah fighters and Iranian officers.

"Dadi was an Iranian military consultant in Syria, advising the government and army on how to fight terrorists," according to a statement released by Iran's Revolutionary Guard.

The AFP news agency reported Dadi was a general. Another Iranian reported killed in the attack was Jihad Mughniyeh, the son of former Hizballah leader Imad Mughniyeh who was himself killed in a bomb in Damascus in 2008.

The commander died alongside Jihad Mughniyeh, the son of former Hizballah leader Imad Mughniyeh.
The Iranian foreign ministry condemned the Sunday attack. "This will not stop the resistance that will continue to fight the Zionist entity until the end," it said.

Fars quoted Hussein Sheikh al-Islam, the international adviser for the Shura council, as saying Israel was "collaborating with armed terrorist groups in Syria to achieve its goals".

He claimed that the Israeli prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, ordered the attack to help him win votes in the Knesset elections due in March.
