Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Monday described the ongoing war in Yemen as useless, that has only resulted in the suffering of its people.
Raisi stressed that a permanent ceasefire must be implemented to resolve the conflict, as he met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi in Tehran.
His comments come a day after Saudi Arabia discussed with the UN a truce in Yemen and the need to reach a political process to end the war.
Saudi Ambassador Muhammad al-Jaber and UN Special Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg met in the de-facto capital, Aden.

Clashes between the Iran-backed Houthi group and the Saudi-backed Yemeni army have been ongoing sporadically despite the humanitarian truce between the two parties, which came into force in April and was renewed earlier this month.
Iran has denied that it supports the Houthis militarily, which took over the Yemeni capital Sanaa in 2015, prompting a Saudi-led coalition to intervene in the unrest.
An estimated 111,000 people have been killed in the conflict, with millions displaced and many parts of the country left in ruins.
It has also triggered one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
