'Heinous crime of execution': Israel troops shoot dead two Palestinians near Ramallah camp

Israeli troops shot dead two Palestinians during a raid close to a Ramallah refugee camp in the occupied West Bank on Monday, Palestinian security sources said.

A third was wounded by Israeli gunfire during the assault, which the sources said took place near the Jalazone refugee camp, the official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.

More than 30 rounds were fired at the three Palestinians who were travelling in a vehicle and all were said to be working in construction.

The two dead are 19-year-old Basel Basbous and 22-year-old Khaled Anbar, while the wounded Palestinian is 19-year-old Rafat Habash.

The deceased are from Jalazone while Habash is from Birzeit, a town near Ramallah.

The Palestinian foreign ministry said it would raise the incident with the International Criminal Court, slamming it as a "heinous crime of execution", Wafa reported.

Israeli forces removed the dead bodies and detained the wounded Palestinian. No further details were available.

The Ramallah and Al-Bireh area branch of Fatah, a Palestinian political faction, called for a general strike over the deaths of Basbous and Anbar.

Israel routinely raids the West Bank, often leading to the death and injury of Palestinians.

In recent months, raids have centred on areas around the cities of Jenin and Nablus.

Dozens of Palestinians have lost their lives since Israel intensified its operations in March.

Among those killed was veteran Al Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Akleh, who was shot dead in May as she reported on an Israeli military raid in Jenin refugee camp.
