Israeli forces injure Palestinian passenger after shooting at vehicle in West Bank

Occupying Israeli forces shot at three Palestinian youths inside a vehicle on Sunday morning, injuring one of them and later detaining the other two.

The attack happened near the town of Ya’bad in the occupied West Bank district of Jenin, Palestinian security sources said, according to official news agency Wafa.

The soldiers chased the three Palestinians at a local road to the west of the town and fired at their vehicle, injuring one of them. The wounded was identified as Abdullah Basem Abu Bakr, a citizen of Ya’bad.

The other two passengers, who were identified as Adham Rmailat and Sha’lan Abu Bakr, were subsequently detained.

Israel has occupied the West Bank illegally since 1967, and commits various abuses against Palestinian civilians, human rights groups say.

More than 700,000 Jewish Israelis live in settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, in constructions considered illegal under international law.

The Oslo agreement of 1995 divided the occupied West Bank into three zones: Area A, Area B, and Area C.

Area A is under the administrative and security control of the Palestinian Authority (PA). Area B's administration is controlled by the PA, with Israel controlling security. Area C is under full administrative and security control of Israel.
