Israeli authorities sent notices on Wednesday to demolish five Palestinian commercial buildings in the town of Deir Sharaf to the west of Nablus, along with plans to tear up a road in the area.

The demolition orders were for a wedding hall, ceramic shop, factory, and two car shops, according to the Palestinian Authority's news agency Wafa, along with a road in the town.

The demolition of Palestinian homes and businesses in the occupied West Bank is often carried out to make way for illegal Israeli settlements or as a form of 'collective punishment'.

Israel has occupied the West Bank illegally since 1967, committing various violations against Palestinian civilians.

More than 700,000 Israeli Jews live in settlements in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, in constructions considered illegal under international law.

In June, a report revealed that Israel’s construction of illegal settlements on Palestinian land increased by 62 percent under the government led by now-former Prime Minister Naftali Bennet, since it came to power in June 2021.

The report was compiled by Peace Now, an NGO and activist group in Israel that promotes a two-state solution between Israelis and Palestinians.

The planning of new settlements had also increased by 26 percent, and the government had given a green light for the construction of 1,550 housing units in settlements in a year - an increase of 15 percent from the previous Netanyahu government.
