An Israeli settler was wounded in a knife-attack by a Palestinian on Wednesday in the Palestinian neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah in Jerusalem. The Israeli police arrested two students at the girls school of Sheikh Jarrah, as well as the school's principal and a social worker.

Israeli media quoted the the Israeli Red David Star as saying that the slightly injured victim was a 26-year old woman. She was transferred to the Israeli Hadasa hospital.

The Israeli police went on to raid the girls school of Sheikh Jarrah, a few meters away from the location of the knife-attack. Local sources told The New Arab that the Israeli police had searched the school as well as its students, and this had reportedly resulted in damages to the building.

According to the same sources, the Israeli police arrested two teenage students, the school principal and a social worker. Israeli media reported that one of the students was suspected of having carried out the attack.

This is the second knife-attack in Jerusalem in less than a week, and the fourth in less than a month. On Saturday a Palestinian young man was killed by the Israeli police near Damascus Gate after stabbing two Israelis. In late November the Israeli police killed a Palestinian teenager after he had stabbed two Israeli policemen in Jerusalem’s old city. A few days later, a Palestinian gunman opened fire on Israeli civilians near the Al Aqsa mosque, causing the death of one and wounding four before being killed by Israeli police.

The spokesperson for the Israeli police told the Israeli army radio on Wednesday that Israel was facing a new wave of individual Palestinian attacks. Meanwhile, daily life in Sheikh Jarrah “has gone back to usual” according to local sources. They told The New Arab that tensions remained high in Jerusalem though, with heavy Israeli military and police presence and random searches of Palestinian youth.
