Israeli tourists visiting the UAE had stolen from Dubai airport’s duty free, Israeli media reported.

Three Israeli tourists were detained for stealing bottles of alcohol, chocolate and a gold-plated iPhone, local media reports said.

They were fined several thousand Emirati dirhams but were later allowed to board a return flight to Israel, the reports added.

Late last year, Israeli media also reported that tourists were stealing items from Dubai hotels.

While commercial flights began in November 2020, daily flights started between the UAE and Israel in early 2021, months after the two countries normalised ties.

Tens of thousands of Israelis have visited the Gulf state, especially Dubai, since then.
