Israel's Prime Minister Naftali Bennett passed on his good wishes for Ramadan when he phoned Bahrain's crown prince on Tuesday.

The Israeli leader "congratulated His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and His Royal Highness [Crown] Prince Salman bin Hamad [Al Khalifa], and Bahraini citizens on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan", the official Bahrain News Agency reported.

Bennett and Crown Prince Salman, who also serves as Bahraini prime minister, also went over means of boosting collaboration between their two countries.

Bahrain controversially agreed to normalise relations with Israel in 2020 in a deal brokered by former US President Donald Trump's administration.

The decision by Manama, the United Arab Emirates and other Arab nations to normalise with Israel has been widely criticised by pro-Palestine campaigners.

The following May, Israel launched a deadly 11-day bombing campaign against the besieged Gaza Strip, which killed over 250 Palestinians and injured thousands more.
