Liverpool football star Mohammed Salah said he was prevented from praying at a mosque in his hometown for Eid when journalists swarmed outside his house on Tuesday morning.

The footballer, dubbed the Egyptian king, made headlines last month after continuing to train and play football, despite fasting during daylight hours for the holy Muslim month of Ramadan.

He took a break from the UK to spend a calm Eid holiday in Egypt with his family after his team won the Champions League final against Tottenham on Saturday, in which he scored the first goal.

Salah planned to start his day by going to a local mosque to make the traditional Eid prayer, which he was unable to do after finding a wave of journalists camped outside his front door.

"What happened as a result of certain journalists and certain people is that I was unable to leave the house to pray Eid prayer," he complained in an Arabic-written tweet.

"This has nothing to do with love, what happened was a sign of disrespect and an infringement on my privacy," he added.

Despite having a stressful morning, Salah posted a relaxed selfie on Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan.

Last year, Salah's address was leaked, leaving fans and journalists flocking to his home.

Salah will remain in Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations, which Cairo will be hosting from 21 to 26 June.

Our 'halal' king

Earlier this week Salah was praised for his Islamic and gentlemanly ethics after he dodged a reporter when he thought she was going to kiss him.

During the post-match interview, the reporter leaned in towards Salah in a bid to raise her voice, prompting the winger to pull away slightly and lift his hand in alarm.

The famed footballer was among the club's stars who were interviewed on the pitch at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium following Liverpool's win in the 2019 UEFA Champions League against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The hilarious video clip became a social media sensation among users.

One Twitter user commented on the video clip saying jokingly that Liverpool's forward pulled away "because it was Ramadan", the Muslim holy fasting month.
