Knife attacker kills one, injures several in Hamburg supermarket
German police have arrested a man after fatal knife attack against customers in a Hamburg supermarket.

A knife-wielding attacker has killed one person and injured several others in a Hamburg supermarket, German police have reported.

The attack occurred in city's northern Barmbek region.

Local police said on Twitter that one suspect was arrested, however the attacker's motive has not yet been identified. 

A photograph of a man, who is thought to be the attacker, was published by Bild newspaper.

According to the newspaper, the assailant began randomly attacking customers before he was apprehended by law enforcement officers.

Authorities confirmed that he was acting alone.

German media outlets have speculated that the attack may have been a botched robbery attempt, however, this has yet to be confirmed.
