Knife-wielding man arrested in main Paris transport hub
France's capital remains on high alert after a man is arrested in Paris' Gare du Nord station, just a day before the presidential election.

A knife-wielding man has been arrested by police at the Gare du Nord station in the French capital Paris, sparking further panic a day before the country's presidential election.

Police said that the man walked into the station carrying a knife, however was apprehended by security services before he could do any harm.

The man was reportedly told to lie down on the floor before being taken away by police officers.

According to witnesses at the scene, some passengers fled and services were later delayed.

The incident comes just two days after an attacker with an automatic weapon opened fire on police in Paris' iconic Champs-Elysees shopping district on Thursday night, killing one officer and seriously wounding two others before police shot and killed him.

Police suspect that the attack may be related to international terror groups, however have yet to formally identify a motive.

A suspect linked to the attack later turned himself in to Belgian police on Friday.
