Britain's LBC Radio has fired controversial columnist Katie Hopkins after she was reported to police for calling for a "final solution" in one of her frequent anti-Muslim tirades on Twitter.

The Daily Mail columnist swiftly deleted the tweet after receiving widespread condemnation for using the term, which historically had been used by Hitler's Nazis to refer to the Holocaust.

LBC said in a tweet that it had agreed that Hopkins would be leaving "immediately".

Hopkins' original tweet, posted in the aftermath of the Manchester suicide bombing that killed 22 people, read:  "22 dead - number rising. Schofield. Don't you even dare. Do not be a part of the problem. We need a final solution #Machester (sic)."

She later reposted the tweet and substituted the Nazi-associated "final solution" phrase with "true solution".

The original tweet was reported to police, who said they would investigate the matter.

Hopkins' sacking has been welcomed by many who have campaigned against the broadcasters' infammatory rhetoric, which includes once describing Palestinians as "filthy rodents".
