A Lebanese man and his daughter were shot dead in a street in the Iranian capital Tehran, several Iranian media sources reported late on Friday.

The semi-official Fars news agency said that the two Lebanese were shot dead by armed men on a motorcycle on Pasdaran Street in northeastern Tehran.

Iranian opposition social media accounts identified the victims as Habib Dawoodi and his daughter Mariam, saying that Habib was activist from the Iran-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah.

They reported that the shooting took place near the Tehran home of Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, a leader of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) who was killed in a US airstrike near Baghdad Airport in January, along with Qasem Soleimani, the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Neither the Iranian government nor Hezbollah confirmed the incident.

Hezbollah has been under increasing pressure in Lebanon following Tuesday's deadly blast at the port of Beirut. The Iran-backed movement has strongly denied storing any weapons or explosives at the port.
