Jordan's King Abdullah II welcomed Fayez al-Sarraj, prime minister of Libya's internationally-recognised Government of National Accord on Saturday in Amman.

The Libyan leader was greeted with an official reception ceremony at the al-Husseiniya palace.

Sarraj and Abdullah discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and stressed the importance of developing the cooperation in different fields, such as investment, trade exchange, medical tourism, higher education and security.

King Abdullah reiterated his country's support for a political solution in Libya.

The pair also discussed the Palestinian issue and regional developments, the statement added.

Late last month it was reported that Libya's government would reimburse Jordan's Private Hospital Association $250 million to cover medical treatment received by Libyan nationals in Jordan.

Medical bills accumulated by Libyans in the kingdom had racked up to nearly $350 million following the outbreak of civil war in Libya in 2011.

The bills relate to medical treatment received by Libyans at 30 different private Jordanian hospitals.
