Middle Eastern cities named among safest in the world

The Crime Index by City, compiled by the Numbeo database website, ranks cities' safety by looking at reported crime statistics.

This year's survey puts the Emirati capital Abu Dhabi in the top spot with Qatar's Doha following closely behind at number two.

Sharjah and Dubai, also located in the United Arab Emirates, are ranked sixth and seventh respectively.

Numbeo's Crime Index by Country 2021 ranks Qatar as the world's safest country, with the UAE in third place and Oman in fourth.

In addition to the Gulf metropolises, the western Turkish city of Eskisehir is ranked eighth in the 2021 Crime Index by City.

The university town has a population of over 700,000.

Taipei, Quebec City, Zurich, Munich and Trieste also populate the top ten.

Muscat, the capital of Oman, and Bahrain's Manama come in at 20th and 28th respectively.

The Libyan capital Tripoli, Syria's Damascus, and Afghanistan's Kabul are listed among the top 50 most dangerous cities, however.
