Three Israeli settlers were arrested in the illegal West Bank settlement of Yitzhar on Sunday, after a number them threw rocks at Israeli police who dismantled an unapproved construction.

A group of settlers from Yitzhar, located in the Palestinian city of Nablus, threw rocks at around eight Israeli soldiers who came to take down a “temporary structure” that was built without a permit, according to Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

When more soldiers arrived, accompanied by border police and members of Israeli Civil Administration as backup, settlers continued to throw rocks at them.

Israeli forces responded by firing stun grenades to disperse the settlers, in what is considered a mild form of retaliation, in comparison to the disproportionate and deadly levels of violence used against Palestinian protestors.

The confrontation comes hours after an area in which Palestinians reside was vandalised just outside the Yitzhar settlement in the Palestinian village of Burin.

Around 45 olive trees were destroyed and the word “revenge” was sprayed in graffiti on a stone in Hebrew, according to Rabbis for Human Rights.

Yitzhar settlers are known for their fanaticism, and are notorious for conducting violent acts against Palestinians, and intolerance towards non-Jewish religious communities.
