Israel's airstrikes on the Gaza strip entered a fifth consecutive day on Saturday, causing further civilian casualties in the densley populated Palestinian territory.

An Israeli airstike hit a Palestinian refugee camp in the besieged strip, where at least 10 people, including 8 children, were killed.

As Palestinians across the Palestinian territories and within Israel mark the 43rd anniversary of their disposession and ethnic cleansing by Zionist militias, known as the Nakba, aid workers and residents in Gaza continue to scour the rubble for the remains of family members or survivors of Israel's strikes.

Since Monday, at least 139 Palestinians, including some 40 children, have been killed in the Gaza Strip, while close to 1,000 others have been injured.

In the occupied West Bank, meanwhile, Israeli forces continued their crackdown on protests, with at least 13 Palestinians having been killed there.

Gaza-based Palestinian group Hamas responded to the Israeli strikes with a barrage of rockets fired towards southern Israel.

Families in Gaza scrambled to UN-run schools for shelter from Israeli strikes on Friday evening, fearing a ground invasion.

Some 10,000 Palestinians have fled their homes in the coastal Palestinian territory since Israel began its latest offensive, according to the United Nations.
